Embodying Yoga

200hr Teacher Training

APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN

The Embodying Yoga 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training is a path to deepening your practice and understanding of yogic traditions, as well as finding your voice and presence as a teacher of yoga.

Whether you plan to teach public classes, work with clients, and/or live a life of compassionate awareness, our training will support and encourage your growth as a student of yoga.

Sacred Space Astoria aims to make yoga accessible for people who might not think a yoga studio is a place for them.  This focus on accessibility will carry over to our training, offering a deeper understanding of all 8 limbs of yoga. While the training will have a strong focus on asana to allow graduates to teach physical yoga (asana) classes, you will also learn and experience the energetic, emotional, and spiritual benefits of an advancing yoga practice.  Each week you’ll work with, explore and study different aspects of a well-rounded practice (mantras, mudras, asana poses, pranayama, chakras, meditation).  Our training offers a container for self-healing and growth, bringing an awareness to both the obvious physical benefits and the more subtle energetic shifts and changes that come with regular practice.

Training Details

A woman practicing yoga on a blue mat in a room with a light-colored wall. She is in a forward bend position, using yoga blocks for support, with tattoos visible on her arm and neck, and wearing black athletic wear.

Embodying Yoga TT students should be aware that they will not only learn about yoga as a spiritual and healing practice, but that they will be actively engaged in the practice as such.  Often, YTT programs can be life-changing and transformative, regardless of whether you intend to teach yoga upon graduation or are taking the training for your own benefit.

Embodying Yoga TT students should expect to attend, assist, and observe weekly classes, complete weekly reading and reflection assignments, attend monthly mentorship meetings, and work with an accountability partner for practice teaching and community support.

While not registered with Yoga Alliance, our training, at a minimum, adheres to their published standards, which align with industry standards of skills and knowledge held by yoga teachers and advanced practitioners.  Sacred Space Astoria does not consider YA membership when hiring but instead focuses on the individual’s experience, knowledge, expression of yogic practices and alignment to our studio’s values.

Annie D. - take class with Annie on Tuesdays @7:45p

“Completing my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) at Sacred Space Astoria was a deeply personal journey of slowing down, becoming more present, and developing a more intentional relationship with my body and mind.

YTT resonated with everything that SSA embodies and offers to its community. The program encouraged each of us to discover what felt authentic to us as individuals with the support from each of the teachers every step of the way. For me, that has become a practice centered around meditation, mindful movement, breath work, and the cultivation of presence and inner peace.

Since completing the training, I've had the opportunity to begin teaching at Sacred Space, which has made the experience feel even more meaningful. I'm incredibly grateful for the experience and for the teachers and community who were part of it. YTT at SSA enabled me to find a practice that feels deeply my own, and something I now feel grateful to be able to share with others.”

Jerry L. - take class with Jerry on Tuesdays @6:30p+Fridays @6:15 + 7:45p

“Yoga was an important part of my life before Teacher Training. I loved the asana and pranayama practices, the awareness it helped cultivate and how it helped me navigate life. I knew there was much more to yoga and was excited to deepen this practice, but I don’t think I fully understood how much the practice would eventually change the way I see myself and the world around me.

One of the most meaningful parts of the training was the community. There is something very special about learning alongside people who are all willing to be vulnerable, curious and open. The relationships I formed with and in the studio became an important part of the experience, and I found a sense of connection and belonging that I wasn't expecting when I started.

I'm incredibly grateful to the studio, and the teachers who helped create an environment where transformation could happen. The training gave me the tools to become a teacher, but more importantly, it reminded me that being a teacher also means remaining a student - being curious, present and always willing to learn.”
