UZIT sessions are 45 minutes of private instruction geared toward relieving symptoms of pain, anxiety, nausea, insomnia, constipation, exhaustion and sadness.  These sessions are for any level of physical fitness or wellbeing, as they were originally designed for those who were hospitalized and their caregivers.  Sessions include simple and basic mindful movements (meant to be done lying down or seated), essential oil therapy, breath awareness practice, body awareness meditations, restorative yoga poses, reiki and contemplative care.  These modalities are used to promote deep relaxation and peace within your body while helping to alleviate symptoms common to the general public as well as those who are currently experiencing illness.

Urban Zen Integrative Therapy

Did you know…?

Urban Zen is also offered in class format on Mondays & Fridays at 7:45p. This class is open to beginners and all levels of wellness and fitness, just like the private sessions.  Most often, class is geared toward anxiety and exhaustion, two of the most common complaints of New Yorkers!  Extensive options are offered throughout class to encourage you to listen to your body and honor your physical/emotional needs in the moment.

FAQs

Do I need to be an experienced yogi to do Urban Zen?

No previous yoga experience is needed - we’re able to work with you in the studio, on a massage table, in a chair/wheelchair, or in your home.

What can I expect during my session?

Urban Zen Integrative Therapy sessions can be done standing, sitting (in a folding chair, on the floor, or in a wheelchair), or lying down (on the floor or on a massage table).  Please let us know if you have any specific needs to accommodate your mobility at the time of booking.  Our studio is wheelchair accessible.

Comfortable clothing with light layers is recommended.  At the start of your session, you’ll have a brief discussion with the practitioner to assess the needs of your body in the present moment.  Sessions are tailored to the client reported symptoms, and your session may include mindful movement, restorative yoga, body awareness, breath awareness practices, reiki, essential oil therapy, and contemplative care practices (deep listening).  Each modality is offered with options to meet you where you are physically and emotionally in real time.  Throughout the session, you will be encouraged to listen to the needs of your body, finding comfort to support relaxation and ease in your body.

What are the effects of an UZIT session?

Most often, clients leave a session with a sense of deep relaxation.  Depending on your needs at the time of your session, you may also leave a session feeling energized and centered.  The calming effects of the practice often support a night of good sleep.

Can I talk during my session?

Absolutely! UZIT sessions are interactive as we discuss what is present in your body at the time of the session.  The contemplative care practices focus on deep listening by the practitioner and often include a discussion of life events that are contributing to the current state of your body.  For any periods of rest during the session, you are welcome to talk, ask questions, or remain in silence - what best suits your needs in the moment is highly encouraged.

What does the booking process entail?

UZIT session requests need to be emailed to info@sacredspaceastoria.com, as Kim’s schedule is not posted to Mindbody.  You must have a credit card saved on your Mindbody account, and once a date and time is agreed upon, with your explicit written permission, we will charge the card on file for your session.  Please note our cancellation and late policies here.

After booking your session, you will receive a confirmation email with the date and time of your session.  Please plan to arrive about 10 minutes prior to the start of your session.

What is your cancellation policy?

You can cancel or reschedule your UZIT appointment up to 24 hours in advance via the Mindbody app, studio website or by emailing the team at info@sacredspaceastoria.com

Last-minute cancellations and no-shows are charged the full price of the session booked. For clients feeling unwell, late cancellations that are within 6 hours of their booked appointment will be asked to reschedule.

Please be mindful and consider that arriving late for your session will result in a shorter appointment. Clients who arrive over 15 minutes late will be considered a late cancellation and will be charged the full price of the session booked.

As a reminder, Sacred Space Astoria does not provide cash or credit card refunds.  Any cancelled appointments within the appropriate time frames will be returned to your Mindbody account for future use.  Please consult the expiration dates of all sessions and packages prior to purchasing to decide what timing works best with your needs.
